Good Monday Morning everyone,
Glad to see we all made it to another work week! Our first major snow event is behind us and as I stated, we made it but there were some lessons to be learned….. Lets start with purchasing cruise tickets to somewhere warm the next time snow is predicted …. Okay, okay – I know, it can get a little pricey – but, there really is no other way to escape it! ….
Alright, for the real lesson – lets say this, PARKING! …Now a good majority of you heeded the warnings that the winter weather parking ordinance would be put into place at the start of snow fall, however – the NPD fielded a considerable amount of calls related to the ordinance ounce the snow was flying! We had some issues on;
Celentano , Snow Crystal, Highland Ave, Hillside, lower Spring Street, Anderson St, North Main, Cherry, Meadow, Scott St and last but certainly not least - Fern St (HUGE problem on Fern!)
… As you can see, it was spread out but we are hoping that with the first storm behind us people will get the hang of the ordinance rules for these areas… If you live on some of these roads or areas around them please take a few moments and review the ordinance before the next storm… we hate towing cars as much as you hate to have your cars towed – but we have to keep the roads passable for our plows to get the job done… not to mention access for fire and EMS in the event of an emergency!
In addition to the parking ordinance – please make certain that the sidewalk clearing ordinance is adhered to as well, any side walk that adjoins your property must be cleared – the weather is going to but warming up a bit so please take advantage in clearing the snow and ice from sidewalks to avoid being fined.
The weekend Police Call Activity report lists all of the problem area under the listings of “Parking Problem” … The NPD handled 367 calls over the weekend total including:
27 Parking Complaints
30 Ambulance / medical assist calls
7 Assault / Domestic related calls
7 DWI’s
9 Motor Vehicle Accidents (None serious)
