NAUGATUCK PD FACEBOOK POST - 9/21/14 - Bangor the Nauga Duck of Justice
Hi Everyone,
Well, I guess the cat…or Duck…is out of the bag! Over the past couple weeks or so we have posted photos containing a rubber duck … For those of you that have noticed and wondered “what’s up with the Duck?” …The duck is our newest member of the Naugatuck PD, and his name is “Bangor… the Nauga-Duck of Justice”!
Bangor is a knock off of the Bangor Maine PD’s “Duck of Justice”… And is without doubt – and lets get this out of the way right now…Bangor is a flat out rip off of Bangor PD’s own DOJ (“Duck of Justice”)! That said – Our duck is at least a FULLY ENDORSED rip off… as Bangor PD has not only given us the thumbs up to utilize our own version of the “Duck of Justice”, but insisted that we have a social media ambassador of our own!
If you are not familiar with the Bangor Maine PD Facebook Page, Bangor PD has had some recent regional and national recognition regarding their Facebook page… Bangor PD Sgt. Tim Cotton is the man responsible for Bagors Facebook success and was the creator of the original “Duck” or “D.O.J.” .
I contacted Sgt. Cotton recently and he was the person to encourage us to come up with a mascot of our own... It was then that I thought that our own duck would be perfect…except that I did not want to “Rip them Off”…. Sgt. Cotton dismissed the notion, and insisted that we “rip them off” and make the duck our own!
It then hit me that we should make the duck a RUBBER Duck… to honor Naugatuck’s past (IE; the old rubber factory) – AND its present (IE; the hugely successful Duck Race event)… Sgt. Cotton not only agreed, but he also offered his endorsement by offering to host our Duck in Bangor Maine for a few days and feature him on their Facebook page! With that I pledged to the Sergeant that I would name OUR Duck “Bangor”… in honor of their brain child!!
The next step was to plot our entrance for Bangor, by easing him into a series of photos on our Facebook page…and he largely went un-noticed for several days… then a question was raised – “What’s up with the duck?”…We let it fester a little…then a little more…and a little more…until finally, well – Lets just say – people were beyond curious and wanted to know…”What’s Up With The Duck???”
So – That’s it, THAT’s what’s up with the Duck…
Heres a little information you should all know about Bangor – He is Rubber, loves long baths, is VERY photogenic…however, he hates to be around K9 Vein our NPD K9 – Because he treats Bangor like a chew toy!
So what now??... Well, Now Bangor will do what he was “molded” to do (Full pun intended!!), Bangor will serve as the Naugatuck PD’s “Social Media Ambassador”. He will present to you, our facebook family a new and different look at the NPD…A look that that only an insider could get access to … until now!!
So we encourage you all to stay tuned … and prepare to be educated and entertained by “Bangor…The Nauga-Duck of Justice”!!
