9/17/2014 - NPD FACEBOOK POST 9.16.14 - NPD Motorcycle

Good Tuesday everyone,

I have attached some photos of the NPD motorcycle – The bike has been with the department for a number of years and is very popular with the citizens of Naugatuck. The bike is a 1999 Harley Road King and has had several modifications over the years including an upgrade to LED warning lights, which are much brighter and use less power.

The bike is a great public relations tool…Not so much because it’s a bike, but how can you not be popular when the assigned officers wear knee high leather boots and a big round helmet!!
The NPD bike is still used on patrol and is also utilized for parades and funerals. We currently have three motor certified officers, however the current assigned officer is Officer Nick Kehoss - who cannot be seen on the bike because at the time this photo was taken he was sent on a call for service and had to use a cruiser - because like all Harleys, something broke unexpectedly (in this case, the kickstand spring) -which he needed to fix upon returning from his call!

Officer Kehoss, like other NPD motor officers before him, must often double as a mechanic as Harleys can often suddenly “become broke” – no matter how hard you try to be preventive! In spite of this, Officer Kehoss knows that the extra work is well worth the title of Motor Officer – and lets face it, how many people can say their job is to ride a motorcycle!

Next time you see him motoring around town – give him a wave (he can wave back… they teach that in motor school!!) ….but please – no CHIPs jokes…they are worn out and ….he’s just plain too young to know what that show was!!!

Thanks for the read and have a happy and safe Tuesday!
