NPD CALL ACTIVITY REPORT:

Well… we try to remind everyone as much as possible … but sometimes people just have to find out for themselves … yesterday we had a car stolen from the Meadow Street Dunkin Donuts… it occurred at 6:30 AM and involved what appeared to the victim to be at least two males in another car, possibly a gray or silver Nissan SUV type vehicle ….

The suspect vehicle appears to have done a “figure eight” through the Cumberland farms parking lot and into the Dunkin Donuts parking lot. …. Our victim committed the cardinal rule violation and left his car unlocked and running to go into D&D to get his coffee … In the victims defense …. And this is a learning moment for all of us, so pay attention!! … left the car running because his car was equipped with the new key fob technology (rather than the traditional key) … these key fobs recognize that the key is not near the car and shut the car down … however, as our victim found out, this is not instantaneous and does not prevent the car thief from taking off with your car …

The vehicle was recovered a few hours later, not far from the store however several valuable items were stolen from the car ….

So … A few words of caution for everyone … Please … DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLES RUNNING AND UNATENDED … LOCKED OR UN LOCKED …. and two – be cautious when entering convenience stores, gas stations and restaurants as these car thieves stalk these areas waiting for their next victim that is not heeding our above advice!

If anyone has information on the above theft, please contact the Naugatuck PD at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.
