6/16/2015 - Rubber Ave reopened - will be closed in same area on Wed 6/17

Rubber Ave has been reopened to traffic after having been closed to all traffic between Arch Street and Rubber Ave. at about 1:30 PM due to a gas line leak.

The Naugatuck Police would like to make residents aware that the same area of Rubber Ave between Meadow / Cherry Streets and Arch Street will be closed to ALL TRAFFIC tomorrow, Wednesday 6/17/15 between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM for water line installations. All traffic will be detoured around the construction on Rubber Ave. between Meadow / Cherry Streets to Arch Street except for traffic going into the Farmers Market Plaza and Friendly’s Restaurant. Traffic will be directed in both directions to Scott Street to bypass the area of construction.
Motorist are encouraged to utilize an alternate route to avoid delays in the area.

A construction crew working in front of Friendly's on Rubber Ave. struck a gas line at about 1:30 pm. NPD and NFD have shut the road down in that area while the utilities respond to correct the leak.
The gas leak had not caused any evacuations of the businesses in the area however motorists are encouraged to avoid the area as no through traffic is allowed on Rubber Ave between Meadow / Cherry St and Arch Street.

The area is expected to be closed to traffic for the next several hours.
