5/18/2015 - NPD Press Release - Arrest of HAVICAN, Ryan

On May 15, 2015 at about 11:30 PM the Naugatuck Police received a report of a 15 year old female that had been approached and inappropriately touched by an unknown adult male. The victim advised officers that she was with friends on the Naugatuck Green at about 11:00 PM when they were approached.

The victim advised that the man asked her if she wanted to drink alcohol with him and that one of her friends told they man that she was underage. The victim said that the man replied "who cares” and asked her to “join him." The victim stated that the man then approached her and put his hand out to shake her hand and when she did, the man pulled the victims hand towards him and asked her “who she was out with” because he “didn’t want her out late." The victim advised that the man then put his hands on her waist and shoulder and started squeezing her tightly.

The victim advised that her friend grabbed her and pulled her away from the man, and that as she did so, the man whispered to her that he had been in jail and that she was a “pretty girl”.
The victim stated that she became very scared and started to cry and that the man walked away. The victim advised that she went home and told her parents what happened and that they called the police.
Naugatuck PD located the man in the area a short time later. He was arrested and identified as Ryan Havican (DOB 10/20/75) of Naugatuck. Upon arrest the man was found to be in possession of a 5” inch - fixed blade knife.

Havican was charged with:
- Breach of Peace
- Risk of injury
- Unlawful Restraint
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon

Havican was held on a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on 5/18/15.
