5/5/2015 - Too Bad Tuesday Arrests - 5.5.15

Greetings Everyone,

Happy Cinco-de-Mayo All!!….Here are some of the latest arrests by the Naugatuck PD – featuring my very witty commentary ….(Hey – I’ve got my opinion….and “witty” is the description I’m going with!!)… Now, lets get into this weeks “Too Bad” NPD arrests … Here is the usual disclaimer: "All persons in these segments are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law and we reserve the right to change the names of those involved (if names are used at all) to protect the innocent" ...

On May 2nd 2014 the Naugatuck PD made an arrest stemming from an incident that occurred on November 30, 2014regarding a stolen motor vehicle complaint.
Naugatuck Officers spoke with the victim who advised that she went outside to check on her car and noticed that it was no longer in the spot where she had parked it. The victim advised that she had last seen the vehicle on Thursday, November 27 2014 and advised officers that she did not know who could have taken the vehicle. The victim advised that the doors may have been left unsecured and provided the vehicles information to officers who then - placed the car into our magic computers in hopes that an officer somewhere out there would see it and vehicle recover it... Upon entering the car into the system, it was discovered it had recently been involved in an accident in Waterbury… Not very surprising, as , well – somehow a good number of our stolen vehicles somehow end up in the Brass (Mall) City…. The officers contacted the Waterbury PD and discovered that the operator of the car was in fact known to the victim… upon speaking with the victim about the operator, she advised that she had – in the past – allowed this subject to “borrow” the vehicle in the past…BUT…. There was an “arrangement”….. (Ouuuuuuuhhhhhh – I love the mystery following that statement…. An “Arrangement”… …. Not feeling it huh?... Okay – Back to the story then….)
....The victim advised that she had in the past let the “operator” use her car under an agreement that he would pay the registration and insurance… and that when he stopped paying, she stopped allowing him to use the car…. …Well … doesn’t that sound a lot like a “Rental Car Agreement”?...except – of course rental car companies typically charge BEFORE letting someone use the car… and I guess that really is the key .... so if any of you out there are thinking about going into the rental car business, my advice – collect the full amount before letting the car go… and if the payments stop – get yer key back…. Free advice – do with it what you may….
The victim advised that she wished to pursue charges against the operator for using her car without permission…. Naugatuck officers attempted to contact the operator to get his side, however I am unable to provide you with information on his side here because….well because he heard the police were looking for him ….so he fled ….he fled to a faraway - distant place where no one would find him…. He fled where he could be free and live a life away from his past – where he would not have to answer for use of a former friends flimsy self –car- rental- agreement – gone – bad deal… he fled to….. DANBURY…. That’s right…. Danbury Connecticut….. and believe it or not…. we found him pretty easily once the warrant came in…. So if any of you are thinking about fleeing the police in a faraway place…Note that Danburys not a great choice….Free advice – do with it what you may….
In closing – the ‘operator” - turned “Fugitive” - turned “Arrested Subject” was taken into custody and housed in our special “Fugitive suite” at the inn – complete with photos of the Danbury Fair Mall, the federal prison where famous people like the “housewives” stars are housed, and ungodly I-84 traffic exists for no apparent reason whenever you are returning from a trip out of state (….Sorry folks, but sadly thats pretty much all I know about Danbury….)
- No word on if he enjoyed his stay!!……

On January 17, 2015 Naugatuck Police investigated a burglary complaint from a residence on Spring Street. The resident advised that she noticed a bag to her motorcycle helmet was cut open and the helmet was missing, she also noticed her roommates hunting bow was also gone. The roommate stated she had last seen the items a few days prior and that they had been housed outside her apartment in a hallway. A report was taken which included the description of the two items…. Now, I think we can all agree that this is one peculiar combination of items for even your weirdest burglar to want to steal…. But – such is the reason we the police exist…. And one would think that a motorcycle helmet wearing, hunting bow carrying bandit would be easy to find… but not so fast there folks – This set (That’s right ….“Set” .... without tipping my hand too much too early – there was more than one burglar at work here…) … where was I – Oh yea .... This set of burglars did it up right… they went on the “DL” (…That’s “Down Low” for all you non- hipsters out there…. …. Not “Disabled List” like some of you baseball fans were thinking either….)…A few days later, the victim contacted police advising that she found her helmet and the hunting bow listed on Craigslist for sale. The victim contacted the seller for both items, who was the same person, and found out the bow had previously been sold but that he still had the helmet. The victim wisely lined up a meeting with the seller at a local eating establishment and notified officers of the place and time….(This story is exciting isn’t it?.... I mean it has it all – Burglary, weapons, helmets, suspense, novice detective-ing leading to useful tips… This is great….. Thank me later – cause it gets better…..) ….(By the way – if this was a TV show – THIS s where I’d play the suspenseful music and then lead to commercials….you know, the LONG ones involving the pet adoptions or the feeding the hungry in under privileged countries ones….yea……)
….anyway – the officer meet up with the mystery seller (would have been great if I could tell you he was wearing a fake mustache and the helmet while sitting “incognito" at a table…. But even THIS story doesn’t have that….) … The seller (Lets call him “Mystery Man #1) was identified at the business and he advised that he was in possession of the helmet, but that he was only holding it as collateral for his friend (…we shall call him “Mystery man #2)…. Mystery Man #1 advised that he gave Mystery Man #2 $40.00 to pay his electric bill and was holding the helmet until Mystery Man #2 could repay him.
….Officers took possession of the stolen helmet and applied for arrest warrants for both Mystery Men….Upon receiving back the warrants both mystery men were arrested and housed at the NPD B&B… no, the bow was unable to be recovered…no word on if the electric bill debt was ever paid…everyone lock up your motorcycle helmets and hunting bows just in case……

On 4/25/2015, at about 1:20 AM, Officer Deeley observed a grey 2006 Honda, turning left from Golden Court onto Prospect Street with only its daytime running lights illuminated. The accused traveled eastbound behind the officer and as they approached Prospect Street School, the officer pulled his vehicle over to the right side of the road in order to let the accused pull ahead of me….This is called the – let them get in front of me to see how they are driving maneuver…kinda checkmates the operator if they are driving while impaired because they usually do not want to drive anywhere near a police car, let alone in front of one….. However, this driver had another plan…. The driver decide to play it cool…..by stopping in the middle of the travel lane …..and would not pass the police car…. …… Now THAT is what you call an “evasive maneuver” …. Not really a smart one….but definitely evasive!!.... The officer advised he waited roughly 30 seconds…with no other vehicles traveling on the road and he then merged back out into the roadway… The officer then turned into the FMD Deli’s parking lot and waited for the vehicle to pass,….which it did do this time….and the officer then conducted a motor vehicle stop of the accused's vehicle.
….Upon approaching the vehicle the officer observed a garment hanging out of the closed driver’s side door that was part of the operator’s shirt…..(…between the poor driving signs and currently worn clothing hanging out your door – the clues are starting to add up!!....) … The driver spoke with the driver and identified her through her CT drivers License. The officer also identified the adult male passenger as the owner of the vehicle…. While speaking with them, the operator stated she picked up the passenger from a bar because he was too drunk to drive…. All of this coming from the operator who the officer advised he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath….The Officer advised he also observed her to have glossy eyes and dilated pupils…... (Yet MORE clues!!....) The officer stated that he asked her repeatedly if she had been drinking however she (…much like her driving maneuver) attempted to avoid his questioning by conversing with the passenger…. (….Note to those of you thinking of trying the same thing…. NOT a great idea when your speech is “slurred and sluggish”….Just leads to more clues!!!) … The officer advised that Officer Bastos, who was backing up officer Deeley asked her if she had anything to drink , she eventually answered that she had not.
The officers requested the driver to perform some roadside sobriety tests… when she exited to do so, she was observed to be swaying while standing in place…(yet MORE clues!!!) …during the testing, officers had to terminate the roadside testing for her safety as the operator almost fell while performing the tests….. A reservation was made at the Inn and the operator was placed under arrest…. Officer Deeley advised that while transporting the operator into the NPD B&B she stated that …and I quote….”“I know I was over the limit, but he was more over”…
…I know I’ve been dishing out a lot of tips in this weeks Too Bad review… But I have to add another…. Reasoning that YOU are driving because the person(s) you are transporting are MORE intoxicated that you are – is NOT a real good game explanation or justification…. Again Free advice – do with it what you may!….

Well, That’s all I have for you this week ….as always – I hope you enjoyed, and that you may have learned from other mistakes and misfortune….I hope you all have great Tuesday and …we will be here if you need us….
