Old Waterbury Road (als

o South Main Street in Waterbury) is partially closed due to an overturned tractor-trailer truck. The incident is on the Naugatuck / Waterbury town line. The truck overturned after attempting to navigate a snow bank that contained a concrete barrier. The flatbed trailer was uplifted and turned on its side causing the load to spill onto the roadway.

Traffic headed south from Waterbury into Naugatuck (or towards Route 8) is being detoured down Platts Mill Road back around to Old Waterbury Turnpike, bypassing the accident. Traffic headed north from Naugatuck towards Waterbury (or from Route 8) is not being detoured but significant delays are expected as crews work to clean the spill and remove the vehicle.

It is strongly suggested that commuters seek alternate routes to avoid delays. It is expected that the road will be fully opened within the next couple of hours.
