1/10/2019 - 1/10/19 - 911 Emergency Sevice Information

On 1/8/19, 911 services in the state of Connecticut went down for approx. 1 hour and 45 minutes. The State of Connecticut Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications along with AT&T and Frontier Communications released an explanation of the incident stating that the disruption was caused by a “configuration error”.

The State of Connecticut Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications advised that 0n 1/8/19 at about 1:00 AM, a planned network configuration was conducted resulting in the disruption in service at 1:09 AM. Network Engineers discovered the disruption and services were restored statewide by 2:45 AM.

The State of Connecticut Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications reiterated that “the stability and reliability of the 911 system are critical and that they take this matter very seriously and are making every effort to ensure that this does not recur.”

The Naugatuck Police Department was without service during this time however we do not believe any 911 calls were made to the agency during the time the system was down.

While we feel the State of Connecticut Division of Statewide Emergency Telecommunications will make every effort to ensure that these types of situations do not re-occur, however this event demonstrates that the system can have limitations.

We remind citizens to have the Naugatuck PD routine phone number programed into your phones as well as having the number written in a readily available location in the event of an emergency where 911 services become unavailable.

The Routine NPD phone number is 203-729-5221 or 203-729-5222, these lines ring to a voice prompt however selecting #1 will connect the caller directly to a dispatcher.

Thank you and please share this information to make sure your family and friends have this information.
