Suspicious Vehicle Incident

On Monday 10/15/18 at 7:57 AM Naugatuck Police were dispatched to the area of New Street and Hillside Ave. on a reported suspicious vehicle that approached juveniles waiting at a bus stop.

The reporting juvenile advised that a blue “work style” van with tinted windows traveling westbound on New Street approached him and another student and heard what he believed to be a male voice from inside the driver side of the van ask them if they “wanted candy” and if they did they could “get into the van and he would bring them to it”. The reporting juvenile advised that the voice was deep but he could not see the person because the tinted windows were only partially open.

Both boys immediately fled the area and immediately reported the incident. The reporting juvenile advised that he believed that the van had turned north bound onto Hillside Ave.

Naugatuck Police conducted an extensive search of the area however no contact was made with a van matching the description.

Naugatuck Police are actively investigating the incident and are requesting that anyone with any information regarding this incident contact the Naugatuck PD at 203-729-5221 or the NPD Confidential Tip Line at 203-720-1010.

Parents and students are urged to be alert and proactive when students are traveling to and from bus stops and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the Naugatuck Police.
